Small but Mighty
Hello All,
God blesses us in the smallest ways that most of the time I would overlook. Like one day last month for instance, I didn’t have anything at home to pack for my lunch and I didn’t want to spend any money on food since I knew I shouldn’t spend money on unnecessary items. But I was hungry so I broke down and decided I would get a breakfast burrito from the café at work. I looked around and found a bag of candy that I wanted which was about two dollars. I went up to the cash register and ordered the burrito and when the cashier gave me the total it was just for the candy. When I asked about it, she said “Oh we are just giving away the burritos right now.” Not having to spend ten dollars on a breakfast burrito doesn’t seem like much but it was a huge blessing.
Another small moment that was a big blessing to me was a conversation I got to have with a coworker who works in a different department. At my work, we are all invited to chapel (which is a worship service) on Wednesday mornings. I usually don’t go but the last Wednesday in October I was feeling called to attend. I almost didn’t listen to the voice telling me to go but at the last minute I gave in. I sat through the worship and the message not feeling anything really resonating with me. It was a good service, but nothing happened that I felt like was the reason God wanted me to go. I started to walk back to my office when a woman I know from another department said hi. We started talking and it came up that I was going to be out of the office for a few weeks. Turns out she had the same surgery a few years before and was able to give me advice and become a part of my support team. We are now making plans to hang out sometime outside of work.
Another small blessing happened at work one day when one of my coworkers offered to wash my car for me. We have an area behind our building where we can wash cars, and he offered to do it for no other reason than he saw how dirty my car was.
These are just a few recent examples that I actually took a minute to recognize. It makes me wonder how many small blessings I have received without even realizing they happened. In the midst of my anxiety, medical issues, and financial struggle God is blessing me. Not in the ways that I would ever think or imagine. Not with grand gestures of taking away my struggles or even by giving me a clear indication of what is going to happen in any of these areas. God comes to bless me in the small ways that easily could go unnoticed, and a lot of the time do go unnoticed.
There is a story in the Bible that talks about hearing God in the smallest whisper. I believe these small blessings are God’s whispers. Instead of focusing on the big issue and thinking God isn’t in these situations, we should look for him in the small moments. Those moments that may not seem significant could make all the difference in your situation. The ten dollars I didn’t have to spend on a breakfast burrito, is allowing me to put that ten dollars towards a bill I need to pay. My coworker offering to wash my car, saved me another ten dollars that I now don’t have to spend on a car wash. Stopping to talk to a coworker has turned into another person praying for me in my anxiety over medical issues and possibly another friend. While none of this is going to ease the burden of medical/physical/financial burdens they do make a small difference in my life. If nothing else it gave me a good feeling and brightened my attitude for the day.
So let’s take time to look for the small blessings and remember there is blessings in the small moments.
Much love,
Victoria
