Hustle, Hustle, Hustle

I live in a city with four major freeways, and I don’t care what time of day you are going somewhere these freeways are packed with other people off to their destinations. As I was on one of these freeways on my way to work one morning I got to thinking about how everyone is always on their way somewhere. To work, to run errands, to whatever event we are attending for friends and family. The saying of “running the rat race” has never been truer than today.

In my own life, I have a full time job, I am writing a novel, I have an active social life with friends and family, I attend church Sunday morning and Wednesday nights. On top of all of that I carve out time to exercise a few times a week (more or less), clean my house, take care of my dog, and still try to find time to participate in all my hobbies.  And yet I still feel like I am not doing enough. I feel like I should be giving more time to some of these pursuits than I do. But I also feel like I am not doing anything for the community around me so now I am thinking that maybe I should volunteer somewhere.

But honestly, I already feel like I don’t have time to do everything I need and want to do. I’m notorious for bailing on my friends for Friday night line dancing. I only work on my novel once a week. If I’m honest I haven’t worked out in weeks because its too hot and I feel like I can use those thirty minutes for something else. My house is a mess because let’s be honest, who wants to come home and clean after working 8 hours. And those 8 hours are really like 10 hours once I factor in the time it took me to get ready and commute both ways, plus lunch break. Not that it is ever an actual lunch break since people are still talking to me constantly. Because even if they aren’t talking about work, they are still talking and I’m still having to interact.

Now I don’t say all of this just so you feel bad for me or anything like that. I say it because I have a feeling that most if not all of us have a similar day to day experience. I feel like we are all just trying to survive day to day and doing the best we can. When I think about the busyness of life it is so overwhelming and it never feels like I will be able to get ahead. But in those moments when life is overwhelming, and my anxiety is setting in I remember that I have a God who is more than my busy moments.

In these moments of busy and wondering how I am going to get it all done, is usually the moment when I choose to turn to God. Even though I should have from the beginning and avoided the anxiety all together. God is the God of peace. The God of comfort. The God of my life. He dictates what is actually important to accomplish in a day. And some days that isn’t going to look how I want it to or how I think it should. But sometimes God is going to tell me to go and some days He is going to tell me to rest. And on those rest days I have to remember that it is a gift from God to be able to rest and not feel guilty for all the things that I “should” be doing.

So when life is busy let’s all remember to take a moment to breathe and thank God for His goodness.

Much love,

Victoria
