Reading is Fun!
Hello everyone,
I hope everyone is having a good weekend. This weekend was one that I look forward to every month.
Each month a group of friends and I get together to have what we call a Read-A-Thon. We take turns hosting. And we all bring snacks to enjoy together and get some sort of lunch. Usually something easy like fast food or pizza.
We start around 10:00am and as everyone trickles in, we start the day. We all bring whatever books we are currently reading and or about to read. Everyone brings at least 3 books, if not a whole bag. As we start, we all share what we are reading, what page we are starting on and how many pages are in the book.
Once everyone is comfy and ready to start reading, we set a timer for one hour. After an hour we check in the on everyone, Check the progress that has been made and if we need a break or are ready to dive back in for another hour of reading. Usually after two or three hours we break for lunch. Once we finish lunch we dive right back in for more reading.
The whole Read-A-Thon usually lasts all day. Start at 10:00am and usually everyone starts to leave about 5:00pm.
My favorite part about these days is not that I get to forget about all my responsibilities for the day (even that is a positive) but that as a group of women we get to come together to just relax and read. All of us usually have different genres we are reading, and it is so awesome to see us come together and enjoy our own books while also being together. We cheer with each other as people finish a book and get to move onto their next one. It has been a way for us to make time for reading without feeling guilty about not doing anything else. It is a time for us to come together and just hang out while we all do something that we love.
The time together grows our friendships and creates new friendships as we invite our friends from other parts of our lives to join our gathering. Three of us started this monthly reading day and today we had grown to seven people in our group. It is such a fun day.
I highly recommend this practice for all my book loving friends out there!
Much love,
Victoria
