Positive Vs. Negative
Hello All!
My goal with this blog has always been to be as honest about my life and my journey as possible with all of you. In my opinion there are too many people who just show the positive side of life on the internet. I want to show my supporters my authentic life. I think its important. So the following post shows the negative side of my writing journey. I hope it shows that if you are struggling in any area that you are not alone in your struggle.
I have stalled in my writing and this post will tell you why. I have not written a single word in probably two months. I haven’t written a short story, worked on my novels, submitted to publishers, or written a blog post.
There have been many factors that have contributed to this slump. Work has started to become busy and by the time I get home I barely have the energy to do the necessities around the house, let alone extra work writing in anyway.
I’ve also been consumed with anxiety about a few things happening in my personal life. They’ve been big worries and still are.
But probably the biggest reason I have stopped working on my writing has been my recent feedback. I had entered this writing contest and did not make it past the first round. The contest was helpful in sending back 3 judges feedback of my work. And while the feedback was a mix of positive and negative comments, my mind chose to focus on just the negative.
With all the negative feedback swirling around in my mind, I convinced myself that my first book, “Second Chances” needed to be completely rewritten before I could submit it to anymore publishers. I told myself that of course all literary agents have rejected my proposal because my writing is garbage. I told myself there was no point in continuing to write my second book because it wouldn’t be good enough, just like the first one.
I have convinced myself that there is no point in continuing to write because it will never be good enough. And honestly I still feel like it may not be good enough. But I have to remember that God gave me a passion for writing. He gave me the idea for both of my books for a reason. It is so hard to keep those positive thoughts in my mind when the negative thoughts are so loud.
I felt so dejected and like there was no point in continuing my writing journey. But I am slowly coming out of that funk. I have put a lot of pressure on myself to get published and to be successful in writing. But who dictates what success means? Success looks different for everyone, so there is no need for me to compete with those around me. I should celebrate their success and know that they will celebrate with me when my time comes.
Plus, success doesn’t have to be a huge thing. It can be small victories like winning writing contests or reaching new followers on social media. It can literally just be writing a blog post when I have no desire or energy to do so (like right now).
With all of this said, I am making a few goals for myself for the summer. I can’t wait to share these goals with all of you when the time right!
Much love,
Victoria
