Tis the Season
Christmas is truly my favorite time of the year. But this year it seems like the busyness is taking control. My mind is full of to-do lists. And it's already creating one for the week I have off after Christmas. It's becoming harder and harder to focus on Christmas and the joy of the season.
So, I guess this blog post is a reminder for you and me both to take a deep breath and let all the unnecessary plans drift away. We should be enjoying time with our friends and family and not doing just because we feel like we have to attend every party we get invited to.
This is our memo to slow down this holiday season. Amid last minute gift shopping, gift wrapping, making sure our house is perfectly clean for guests, every cookie is baked, and every Christmas event is attended, let’s take a moment to remember the magic of the season. And honestly, why we celebrate Christmas.
At the core of Christmas, we are celebrating the birth of a King who came in the quietest, simplest way possible. Born in a manger, nobody around. Just quiet. Mary, the mother of Jesus, kept all these things in her heart to ponder. I think we should also be reading the story of Jesus and his miraculous birth and pondering the story and reflecting on what it means for us. Not only at the Christmas season but for everyday life.
Life seems busier even at the holiday season. We can use the holiday season as an excuse for our busy, anxious attitudes. But if you are like me, its just that an excuse. The truth is I always feel busy and anxious. My mind is always filled with several different to-do lists. But it sounds better when I can blame the holidays instead of just being anxious and not giving my worries over to the Lord.
I think we can all agree being an adult just comes with so many responsibilities; it can become hard to juggle. But the miracle of Christmas is that God gave us His Son to take on all of our cares, worries, and problems. Let us remember the Christmas miracle and lean on the truth all year long.
So as we are a week from Christmas and things start to get even more hectic, remember to take a moment and just thank God for his blessing. I know I will try to do the same.
Much love,
Victoria
