Hello All,
Since October is considered "spooky season" I wanted to share with all of you a short story I wrote a couple years ago. I hope you all like it!!
Guardian Angel

Paula walked into the pep rally on the first day of her sophomore year. As she walked in she was immediately drawn to a guy across the gymnasium. As soon as the rally was over she walked to him.
“ Hi. My name is Paula.”
The boy looked confused for a moment and then looked around. “Lance.”
“Nice to meet you.”
Lance still looked confused, “I have to go, but would you meet me at the pier after school?”
Paula smiled, “I would love to. Where should we meet?”
“The bench closest to the Ferris Wheel.”
“Okay, see you after school.” Paula watched as Lance walked away, curious to know more about him.
Paula waited for half an hour for Lance to show up but he never did. The next day at school Paula searched for him to no avail.
After the longest day of school ever, Paula went to her locker and found a piece of paper with her name scrawled on the front. Opening it all she found was an address. She looked around but saw no one. Against her better judgment, she decided to visit the address. When she got there she was stunned. She checked the paper again and knew this was the right place. But why had someone led her to a vacant lot?
Paula was so confused. She had assumed the address was from Lance, but why would he send her to a vacant lot? Once home Paula decided to try to find Lance in the year book but he wasn’t in there.
The next morning at school Paula still felt confused as she opened her locker. She was startled to see another note with her name on the front. It was the same handwriting as yesterday’s note. Paula reached for the note. I’m sorry I couldn’t make it. Meet me after school at the same location. -Lance
School ended. Feeling unsure about meeting Lance, Paula headed to the pier anyway. She waited half an hour before she decided he wasn’t coming. She sighed, feeling defeated.
The next day Paula opened her locker and there was another note from Lance. Paula stared at it, contemplating if she should even read it. She stuffed it into her pocket and walked to her first class.
All through class Paula kept getting distracted by the note in her pocket. She couldn’t stand it anymore and slyly took the note out of her pocket. I know I have flaked on you twice and there is no reason for you to believe I’ll show up this time. But I really want to get to know you. Meet me at the pier after school? -Lance
Paula walked to the pier, determined this would be the last time she attempted to meet Lance. She really liked him but he wasn’t worth wasting her time. She sat on the bench and saw a note with her name on it as she did. Picking it up, she started to read,
Paula, You are an amazing girl. I noticed you last year but you never noticed me so I was surprised when you came up to me at the pep rally. I know I’ve been elusive since then. But there is a reason for it. I have been told that I can’t get too close to you. Just know that I have been watching over you and I will continue to do so. I love you and miss you. Go to the vacant lot and you’ll have all the answers you need. -Lance
Paula ran as fast as she could to the vacant lot. She walked onto the lot searching for what Lance might be talking about. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a paper blowing in the wind. She picked it up and saw a yellowed piece of newspaper. She picked it up and noticed the date. November 25, 1998. A week after my birthday. Paula scanned the headlines. House Fire Kills Teenage Boy. Paula scanned the article quickly. In the early hours of the morning, a residential fire engulfed a home. Lance Smith unfortunately passed away from smoke inhalation after rescuing his parents and sister from the blaze.
Paula was startled by the tears running down her cheeks. She kept reading the article. Lance died as a hero saving his parents, and his one week old sister, Paula. Paula grabbed the news article and ran all the way home.
Much love,
Victoria
